Professional Experience

Nicholas has more than 15 years of legal post-qualification experience.  Graduating from the University of Southamprton in the UK, Nicholas was appointed a Legal Service Officer by the Singapore Legal Service and served as a Deputy Public Prosecutor/State Counsel in the Attorney-General Chambers where he prosecuted capital offences, white collar crimes and rendered training and advice to officers from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Commercial Affairs Department. Nicholas was also seconded to the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority where he was part of the national secretariat responding to the global FATF mutual evaluation of Singapore’s AML/CFT controls on a national level. Nicholas was also instrumental in setting up the Financial Reporting Surveillance Programme in ACRA as well as the regulation of Corporate Service Providers framework in relation to AML/CFT controls.

Additionally, Nicholas was a member of the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s secretariat Corporate Governance Council which successfully implemented substantial changes to the Code of Corporate Governance for Listed Companies. He was also an editor of the inaugural series of Corporate Governance Guidebooks produced by the Singapore Institute of Directors.

Venturing into the private sector, he was the Principal Legal Counsel at the Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) and its Director of Corporate and Council Affairs, where he oversaw several external grant audits and internal audit matters.  Nicholas is also  an Independent Director of a SGX Mainboard Listed Company, where he is the Chairman of its Nominating Committee and a member of the Audit Committee. He reviews the scope of work for the engagement of statutory and internal auditors and their reports post engagement, including Environmental, Social and Governance Reporting.
